It marks a significant milestone as the final chapter of our 2022–2025 strategic period, setting the stage for the launch of our new strategic direction.

Approved by members at our recent AGM, our 2025 Annual Report reflects on a year of purposeful consolidation, deep reflection, and active influence across the youth justice sector.
Throughout 2025, the AYJ continued to hold government and decision-makers to account across our core policy priorities:
Ensuring custody is a last resort: Sustaining pressure for an ambitous review of child sentencing culminating in confirmation from government at the end of the year that youth justice reforms would be brought forward in 2026.
Advancing racial justice: Pushing the Ministry of Justice to address stark disproportionalities and publicly challenging harmful practices in the secure estate, such as the authorisation of PAVA spray.
Keeping children safe: Influencing the Crime and Policing Bill and informing early intervention frameworks.
Our strength remains rooted in our coalition. By the close of 2025, our alliance numbered 80 member organisations. We were particularly proud to welcome eight new members, six of which are organisations led "by and for" communities experiencing racism.
Alongside member growth, we strengthened our governance by welcoming five new trustees, bringing vital skills in finance, policy, and equity to our Board.
Looking Ahead
As we close out the 2022–2025 strategic period, we extend our gratitude to our members, funders, staff, and trustees. Following the launch of our new strategic direction, we remain committed to advocating thorugh and alongside our coalition to achieve long-term, child-centred transformation across the youth justice system.
