EVENT: Exploring the Impact of COVID-19 on the Youth Justice System

Join AYJ and the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies on Wednesday 27th April where the findings from the UKRI-funded research project will be presented, hosted at Manchester Metropolitan University.

This event will present the research findings in relation to the impact of COVID-19 on youth justice in the community, courts and custody. It will provide an opportunity for delegates to discuss their own experiences of how COVID-19 has impacted their work and the future of the youth justice system.

The event will also hear from an expert panel of youth justice professionals who will take part in an audience Q and A. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Keith Fraser, Chair of the Youth Justice Board (YJB)

  • Pete Gormley, Governor of Wetherby Young Offenders Institution

  • Esther Horner-Aird, Deputy Director of Youth Work at the National Youth Agency (NYA)

  • Chesney Chick, YOT Manager, Monmouthshire,

  • Thomas Lang, Head of Service at Manchester Youth Justice

  • Rob Moussalli, Head of the Youth Crime Department at Burton Copeland Lawyers.

The event will launch a film co-created with children discussing their experiences of the youth justice system during the pandemic.
