Event Overview: Exploring the Impact and Implications of COVID-19 on the Youth Justice System

On Wednesday 27th April 2022, the AYJ with the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies hosted a hybrid event at Manchester Metropolitan University, to examine the findings of our joint research project exploring the impact of COVID-19 on the youth justice system.

The event explored the implications of the research, and insights on the effects of the pandemic within the youth justice system were given by delegates and experts, via our speakers and expert panels. Topics such as delays to Youth Court proceedings, the challenges posed to Youth Offending Teams, and discrepancies in the experiences of children in Young Offender Institutions and Secure Children’s Homes were addressed.

AYJ Policy Manager, Millie Harris, presented the AYJ’s research and summarised key findings and recommendations in our policy briefings.
