Millie Harris becomes AYJ’s Policy Manager

In her new role, Millie will lead the development and delivery of AYJ’s influencing, policy and public affairs work, to drive systemic change for children in contact with the youth justice system.

Alongside leading the development of policy positions through developing in-depth knowledge, horizon scanning, and influencing key debates, Millie will also draw on the experiences of AYJ’s members to shape our policy and influencing activity, including the coordination of member expert groups.

Reflecting on her new role, Millie said:

“Since joining the AYJ team in 2017 I have had the privilege of working with so many incredible, passionate, hardworking people in our membership to develop AYJ's policy positions and influence decision-makers. I have learnt so much from experts across the sector, working on a breadth of issues impacting children in contact with the law.

I'm grateful for this fantastic opportunity to manage the AYJ's policy work and play a part in our critical mission to drive positive change in youth justice. I'm proud to lead our responses to policy developments, shape the narrative through our proactive work, and be a voice for the sector engaging with parliamentarians and policy makers. There is still a huge amount of work to be done, and I look forward to facing these challenges in my new role, together with the AYJ team, our members, and children and young people.”

If you have any questions or ideas regarding our policy work at the AYJ please get in touch with Millie via email: millie.harris@ayj.org.uk

The AYJ would like to extend huge thanks and appreciation to the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation for their support and for making this fantastic appointment possible.
