AYJ Annual Report and Financial Statements 2024

This report sets out the Alliance for Youth Justice’s work, impact and financial review for 2024 — our first year as a registered charity. It reflects a period of transition and growth for the organisation, shaped by our Reimagining Youth Justice strategy and the appointment of a new CEO.

The report outlines:

  • A period of organisational change, including a new CEO and our transition to charitable status.

  • Our influencing work with the new government, which was informed by working closely with members to identify our key policy priorities.

  • Progress on our three core priorities: Keeping Children Safe, Racial Justice, and Custody as a Last Resort, each shaped by the voices of young people and members.

  • Our work to develop evidence-based solutions — including children transitioning to adulthood while in contact with the justice system — and the amplification of young people’s voices, ensuring their insights shape policy, practice and decision making.

  • Continued growth and engagement across our diverse membership.

  • Our financial review and independently examined accounts for the financial year ending 31 December 2024.

  • Our plans for 2025, the final year of our current strategy.

The briefing draws from an evidence review; workshops bringing together professionals from the youth and adult criminal justice sector, voluntary and community sector, academia and legal representatives; meetings and interviews with practitioners and civil servants; and consultation sessions with 50 children and young adults held in child and adult custodial settings, facilitated by Kinetic Youth Ltd.
