Young Advocates attend weekend residential

At the end of October, the Young Advocates attended their first residential. As well as being the chance to enjoy themselves and spend time together, the residential was an opportunity to learn some important new data analysis and influencing skills.

The Young Advocates have been completing a series of workshops and interviews, as part of a programme of youth-led peer research on issues they have identified as important to them. Throughout the residential, they took part in workshops on how to analyse the data that they collect from these interviews, and how to present evidence in different forms to influence both the public and parliament and bring about positive change.

The Young Advocates also underwent first aid training from StreetDoctors about how to respond if they encounter a victim of knife crime. They also heard a speech from a fourth year Cambridge medical student - a founding Youth Endowment Fund Youth Advisory Board member and current Youth Endowment Fund Committee Member – about the understanding and wisdom that comes from experiencing challenging life circumstances, and working to bring about the change needed to stop similar traumatic events happening to others.

They spent their evening leisure time enjoying a Virtual Reality gaming experience!

The Young Advocates will be publishing the findings of their research in a report and sharing them in a showcase event in the coming months, so look out for updates! We look forward to working with them to develop their datasets, and to present this evidence to parliamentary stakeholders and the wider public.
